As I swim through cold water,
I always have time to think.
Stroking along, head under,
I am thinking on what I should think.
I suddenly dive down, deep
      It is darker and colder,
And now I’m a fish, or frog,
      And it keeps getting colder.
A song, a hum, a small sound
      Swims through water to ear.
I hear the pool singing, humming,
      Whispering into my ear.
Suddenly, I feel the ocean.
I open my eyes to see,
And fish, reefs, and starfish,
      All now do I see.
My breath pounds my chest.
      I must surface now,
Leave the beauty in water.
I don’t want to leave, now.
I leave my heart behind.
      I see this always,
The sea and beauty of water,
      Of earth, always.
                                   And I sing.
